We are Inspired by the journey we have travelled so far. Our road has always been interwoven with textiles and the histories of our family & house.
OUR STORIES, OUR HISTORY, OUR CALLING
Family. Business. Fabrics.
Fabrics have been an essential part of the 70 years of history and brand transformation for this family run business, in which each generation evolves, rethinks and adapts to the times.
Architecture. Colonial. Bungalow.
This 200 year old courtyard bungalow was built during the late 19th century at Bhagalpur, a city in southern Bihar, on the banks of the river Ganges. The home exudes colonial charm with its period furniture, old paintings, high ceilings held up by wooden rafters and airy colonnaded verandahs.
It has been home to the family from the beginning. Stepping into the residence, you experience it's diverse heritage, with influences from different parts of India and the world. It is easy to picture oneself on a summer afternoon, sitting on the verandah, sipping tea while watching the shadow's play.
Handmade. Silk. Village.
India's 'Silk City' has produced textiles for centuries. Handloom weaving is a cultural legacy, passed from master to apprentice through families and communities in a continuous process. The use of traditional methods of thigh reeling and hand weaving, create a uniqueness of texture which is world renowned.
The climatic conditions here, induce a brightness and luster to the silk yarn & fabrics, due to which the reputation of Bhagalpur 'Tassar' Silk & Saris, its origin & characteristics, are recognised and have been protected with a geographical indication (GI).
Preserve. Sustain. Archive.
Renovations to the structure are being undertaken in an organic and sustained manner. We are using only traditional building materials and techniques to do this.
We are also exploring ways - to investigate, care for and promote - our fabric archive, our personal histories, the bungalow, it's history and the artefacts of the house.
